The state Insurance Commissioner put a Kent woman on an insurance fraud most wanted list after she failed to appear in court.
Tiera Bates, 31, of Kent, failed to appear in King County Superior Court to face a charge of filing a false insurance claim, according to a state Insurance Commissioner’s media release. A bench warrant for her arrest was issued on April 29 and her bail is set for $2,000.
Bates now joins Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler’s insurance fraud most wanted list. Bates was charged April 6 in connection with a false auto insurance claim.
According to the investigation, Bates purchased an auto insurance policy on July 3, 2015 from Lyndon Southern Insurance Co. Three days later, she filed a $4,200 claim for a reported hit-and-run collision that damaged her 2006 Cadillac SRX. Investigators determined the photo of the damage to the car that Bates submitted with her claim was taken on July 3, a couple of hours before she bought the policy.
The insurance company denied the claim and referred the case to Kreidler’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU).
