Kentlake High School presents its seventh annual American Sign Language (ASL) Music Project on May 29-31 at the Kentlake Performing Arts Center, 21401 SE Falcon Way.
“This project showcases students from all levels of ASL and brings a new perspective about the arts and music to the audience,” said ASL teacher Kathy Underhill, who created the event. “It will be a great cross-cultural event for hearing and deaf participants.”
The Covington Chamber of Commerce recognized Underhill for her work, naming her its 2013 Teacher of the Year.
ASL students will perform contemporary music live on stage. The entire event is signed, using ASL with short videos between each performance. The event will have a voice interpreter for the “signing impaired.”
Proceeds will be donated to the Sertoma Club (Washington chapter), which is dedicated to deaf youth and deaf education in the South Seattle area.
Tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for students and are available at www.brownpapertickets.com/event.
