Kentridge High School’s Eli Wills received best actor honors at the 12th annual 5th Avenue Awards at Benaroya Hall on Monday.

Wills, a senior, won in the Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role category for his portrayal of Robbie Hart in the school’s production of “The Wedding Singer”.

The 5th Avenue program honors top performances in high school musical theater, a prep version of the Tony Awards.

For winning the award, Wills has been invited to attend the National High School Musical Theater Awards in New York City on June 25. It is the first time recipients of the award will go to the national show.

“I’m floating,” Willis said of the honor. “It still hasn’t hit me.”

In addition, Kentridge’s Amanda Harris won for her work in the special honors category.

Kentridge was nominated in eight other categories and received two honorable mentions.

“The Wedding Singer,” under the direction of Jenny Grajewski, was nominated for Outstanding Choreography; Outstanding Direction; Outstanding Stage Crew; Outstanding Lighting Design; Outstanding Lobby Display; Outstanding Performance by a Chorus; and Outstanding Stage Crew. Joshua Curtis was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role for his portrayal of Joshua Curtis as Sammy.

Kentridge’s Brielle Creaser was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role (Brielle Creaser as Domina/Volpina, “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”).

Kentlake received two nominations and four honorable mentions.

Seth Wiswell was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Featured Ensemble Role for her work as Victor/Dracula/Duet in “Young Frankenstein”.

Devin Bovee was nominated for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role as Igor in “Young Frankenstein”.

The 5th Avenue Awards show, sponsored for the 10th year by Wells Fargo with additional support from Alaska Airlines, was packed with 2,000 teenagers, dressed in costume representing their schools’ musical theater productions. The acclaimed event, directed this year by Mathew Wright, handed out awards in 21 categories, celebrating 121 productions at 94 schools throughout the state.
