Excel Charter School continues to search for a viable building to use in Kent when it opens in the fall of 2015.
It comes in the wake of a Kent School District decision to reopen the old Kent Elementary School building on West Smith Street — currently occupied by the Kent Calvary Chapel — as an early learning center. Excel director Adel Sefrioui said that this was the school’s first choice.
“We’ve moved past that as a feasible option, and are now screening out the viable commercial spaces available in Kent,” said Sefrioui.
“We felt like we had a strong proposal if they’d allow us to share the space to create a new school for the students and parents of Kent,” Sefrioui said. “We felt that it could be a model to the state of Washington on what district collaboration could look like.”
One such facility under consideration is near the Panther Lake and Springbrook communities, while the other is closer to Kent-Meridian High School.
