Crews recently converted the southbound curb lane in Kent on Washington Avenue between West Smith Street and Willis Street (aka State Route 516) from a High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane to a general purpose lane.
The lane change will improve travel time for drivers headed south to westbound SR 516 as an alternate route to westbound West Meeker Street, according to city officials. The right lane on Washington Avenue becomes a right-turn only lane at SR 516. Drivers go westbound on the streets to get to Reith Road, Military Road South and Interstate 5.
Traffic is expected to get heavier on Meeker Street over the next couple of years with plans for a 500-unit apartment complex where the Riverbend par 3 golf course now sits and 300 apartments at the corner of West Meeker Street and 64th Avenue South.
