Kentwood High went into lockdown after reports of a student with a gun

Lockdown lifted prior to noon Wednesday, Sept. 25; female student detained

A lockdown was lifted just before noon Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Kentwood High School in Covington and a female student was detained for reportedly having a gun on campus.

“There is no threat to the public or the school,” a King County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson said in an email.

A call came in just after 10 a.m. and the lockdown was lifted at about 11:45 a.m., according to the spokesperson.

“Detectives are still on the scene, and this remains an active investigation,” according to a Sheriff’s Office email sent just after 12 p.m.

No further details were released by the Sheriff’s Office.

Kentwood is at 25800 164th Ave. SE in Covington and part of the Kent School District.
