Kentwood High School hosts a College Application Event on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Kentwood High School hosts a College Application Event on Wednesday, Dec. 4.

The event runs from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Kentwood library, 25800 164th Ave. SE, Covington.

High school seniors are invited to the free event for help with their college applications. Seniors interested in applying to community, technical, and four-year colleges are welcome.

College representatives and writing tutors will be available for support. Students will have free access to computers, printers and the Internet.

“We’re committed to preparing our students for success in the 21st century,” said Superintendent Edward Lee Vargas. “By providing this extra opportunity for college success, we can help prepare them for the rest of their careers. We want to help students, regardless of their background, to create their own paths to success.”

Western Washington University student Hung Le, son of Phi Le and Hanh Ngo of Kent, received a $2,000 Clark Nuber, P.S. accounting scholarship for the 2013-2014 academic year. The scholarship is generated through the Seattle Business Forum that the foundation holds every year, and is either a recruitment scholarship, awarded by admissions, or awarded by Western’s College of Business and Economics-Accounting. Le graduated from Kentwood in 2009. He is scheduled to graduate from Western in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and Economics and a minor in business administration and communications. Le is a Beta Alpha Psi member, Beta Gamma Sigma recipient and Western’s associated students vice president for business and operations.
