In honor of their outstanding performance at the 2010 Dance/Drill competition, the members of the Kentridge High School Chatelaines Dance Team were recognized May 10 by the Metropolitan King County Council.

The 52-member Chatelaines brought home four titles from the state competition conducted in Yakima last month. A total of 70 high school teams competed in this year’s competition, and Kentridge earned first place in the “Show” category and second place in both the “Dance” category and the “Kick” category. With a GPA of 3.54, the Chatelaines were also named Academic State Champions in the Dance/Drill 4A classification.

“I am very proud to present these young women with this recognition, not only for their talents in dance, but also for their dedication and focus with their school work,” said Councilmember Julia Patterson. “It’s not every day you see a group of individuals working so well together, with the drive and passion to succeed on many different levels.”

Beyond their talents in the dance arena, the Chatelaines are also very active in their community. They conduct junior dance clinics for young aspiring dancers, have special performances for Girl Scouts and special-needs children, perform at Seahawks halftime and Husky basketball games, and conduct free shows for entertainment throughout their community. They are also involved with other activities at their high School such as DECA, drama, golf, swimming, gymnastics, choir and leadership.

The Chatelaines are coached by Staci Mattson, Ashley Printz, and Tami Printz.
