King County Democrats endorse Kaur, Stearns in state races

Both are running in the 47th District that includes parts of Kent, Auburn and Covington

King County Democrats have endorsed Kent’s Satwinder Kaur in her race for the 47th District Senate seat and Auburn’s Chris Stearns in his race for the 47th District House Position No. 2.

Kaur, a Kent City Council member is running in the Aug. 2 primary against Kent Democrat Claudia Kauffman and Kent City Council President Bill Boyce, a Republican.

Stearns, a member of the Auburn City Council, is running against Kent Democrat Shukri Olow and Republicans Carmen Goers, Barry Knowles and Ted Cooke.

The 47th District includes parts of Kent, Auburn and Covington.

The two candidates with the most votes in each race advance to the Nov. 8 general election.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. County Democratic Party’s executive board, representing the 17 legislative districts, and the King County Young Democrats, endorsed 56 candidates for state and local office, according to a June 1 press release.

“The King County Democrats are continuing their vision in 2022 to reach out to underrepresented communities and to build the party and the bench to be more representative of our diverse county,” said Shasti Conrad, chair of the King County Democrats. “We are also thrilled to support candidates who will stand up for progressive values.”

Conrad is the first woman of color to chair the county Democratic party for Washington’s most populous county.

The King County Democrats represent the face and voice of the Democratic Party in King County, working to elect Democratic candidates to office at every level of government and advocating for public policies rooted in Democratic values.

The group also endorses Kim Schrier (8th District) and Adam Smith (9th District) for Congress along with U.S. Sen. Patty Murray.
