King County Veterans Advisory Board seeks applicants

Veterans are wanted to serve on the King County Veterans Advisory Board.

The King County Veterans program sees more than 2,000 veterans each year and provides services ranging from stability and supportive services to employment guidance and assistance. Veterans, current service members, National Guard members, Reserve members, and dependents of these military personnel may be eligible for services.

Direct services are provided at two main offices in Seattle and Renton.

The board will have its annual business and election meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Renton WorkSource Office, 500 SW 7th St., Suite 100.

The purpose of the board is to make recommendations for the proper disbursement of funds, make available to veterans a means of securing appellate relief, assist the King County Veterans’ Program in its activities and to work with the program.

Below are the qualifications needed to vote for new members and/or be elected to the Advisory Board.

1. Active duty or honorably discharged from active or reserve duty.

2. An officer of a congressional chartered veterans’ organization; or member in good standing and appointed “in writing” to represent said organization.

3. A veteran from the community at large.

4. Willing and able to meet at least once a month for the length of the term. (Terms are for two years.)

For applications and additional questions, call Rita Sanchez at 206-477-8351 or email her at rita.sanchez@kingcounty.gov. Applications are due by Feb. 10 to the KCVP program manager’s office.
