Kiwanis clubs will place painted Sunshine Stones later this month at downtown Kent parks to “spread joy and positivity, encouraging everyone to explore their surroundings and connect with nature,” according to the Green River Area Division of Kiwanis.
That group announced the placing of the rocks in a July 5 press release. The event brings together Kiwanis clubs from Aktion Club, Auburn, Covington, Federal Way, Kent, Kent-AM and Renton.
The AM club will place the rocks they painted at the downtown parks in Kent and in the flower beds on or around July 20, according to the Green River Area Kiwanis. The noon club will place its rocks at the Kiwanis Tot lots on or around July 27. The Aktion club will place their rocks at the Three Friends Fishing Hole on July 29.
The Aktion Club is a Kiwanis Club for adults living with disabilities to develop initiative and leadership skills through hands-on service, according to Ann Sappington of the Kiwanis Green River Area Division. The Kent Aktion Club was established in 2014 and has provided service to the community in serving seniors at the annual senior breakfast, making hygiene kits to support the unhoused, making mothers and fathers day cards and providing them to senior living homes, supporting a pajama drive for Akin (formally Children’s Home society) and a diaper drive that supported 17 nonprofits in 2024.
Each club painted rocks, some with pictures and many with inspirational messages, Sappington said. There will be 15 to 20 rocks per club distributed at their selected locations.
Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time. Its mission is to serve the children of the world, promote higher standards and build better communities.
