Leslie Hamada, Donald Cook lead Kent School Board Aug. 1 primary race | Update

Hamada has large lead for one of two spots on Nov. 7 ballot; candidate Lawson endorses Cook

Kent School Board incumbent Leslie Hamada dominated the Aug. 1 primary while Donald Cook stands in second followed by Stephanie Lawson and Lizz Morgan.

The two candidates with the most votes advance to the Nov. 7 general election.

Hamada has 48.75% (8,067 votes), Cook 23.96% (3,965 votes), Lawson 18.40% (3,045 votes) and Morgan 8.15% (1,348 votes), according to King County Election results updated Wednesday, Aug. 2.

King County Elections will update results each weekday until the election is certified Aug. 15.

Lawson said in a Facebook post Aug. 2 that she is endorsing Cook over Hamada for the position on the November ballot.

None of the candidates have much in campaign contributions, according to the state Public Disclosure Commission on Aug. 1. Morgan had the highest amount at $1,450 followed by Cook with $710. Hamada and Lawson showed no contributions on their reports.

Voters elected Hamada to the District 3 seat in November 2019 when she ran unopposed. Her four-year term ends in November 2023.
