Link light rail service between the Rainier Beach and Tukwila International Boulevard stations this weekend will experience single-track operations and a one-day stoppage while crews make track repairs in the area.

Beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, light rail trains will operate on a single track between the Rainier Beach and Tukwila stations. Starting at 5 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, both southbound and northbound tracks between Rainier Beach and Tukwila will close through Sunday morning, according to a Sound Transit news release.

King County Metro shuttle bus service Route 97 will operate between the two stations during the closure.In addition, Special ST Express shuttle bus service will operate between Rainier Beach and Sea-Tac Airport. Single-track light rail service between Rainier Beach and Tukwila will resume Sunday at 9 a.m. Full light rail service will resume Monday at 5 a.m.

Metro shuttle bus Route 97 will run every 10 minutes all day Saturday. Special ST Express shuttle service will operate Saturday every 10-20 minutes between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. and every 25-30 minutes before 9 a.m. and after 11 p.m. All shuttle buses in Rainier Beach will board on Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Henderson Street. Bus passenger pick up and drop off at Sea-Tac Airport will occur at International Boulevard and South 176th.

During the single-tracking work period and through Sunday, Oct. 7, trains will reduce speeds to 10 mph when traveling through the work zone. Riders should expect minor delays. Link will continue to run regular service between the University of Washington and Rainier Beach and Tukwila International Boulevard and Angle Lake stations.

During a routine inspection, Sound Transit maintenance crews discovered irregularities in the rails just south of Rainier Beach Station, where light rail trains cross Interstate 5 near Boeing Access Road. Crews will be staging equipment and other preparatory work in the area prior to the start of repairs.
