The Kent Lions and 12 other Lions clubs from the region have scheduled their sixth-annual Special Needs Youth Fishing Derby for April 24 at the Auburn Mill Pond Park, at 600 Oravetz Road.
Invited are all special-needs youth, as well as their siblings and friends, although the special-needs youngsters get first crack at flipping their lines into the pond. Young anglers also need to have fishing rods and bait.
The state of Washington stocks the pond with more than 1,000 legal fish. And Lions Club members will clean and package the fish that young anglers catch. The Lions also will provide food and beverages at a nominal cost.
The event runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and is free.
