Man, 18, found dead in parking lot near Kent-Meridian High School

Police investigating circumstances that led to Monday morning, June 3 death

Kent Police are investigating the death of an 18-year-old Kent man found Monday morning, June 3 in the city’s Campus Park parking lot in the 9800 block of South 252nd Street near Kent-Meridian High School.

Multiple officers were dispatched at about 11:10 a.m. to an aid call for an unconscious man in the parking lot, according to a June 3 Kent Police news release. The 911 caller said the man had significant bleeding and might be deceased.

Officers and Puget Sound Fire personnel arrived at the same time and located the man with an injury to the back of his head, consistent with a gunshot wound, according to police. He was already dead.

Detectives responded to the scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death. The King County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded and will conduct the investigation as to the cause of death and will release the man’s identity.

Steps taken by Kent-Meridian

The high school went into a modified lockdown during the incident, according to a June 3 email from Principal David Radford to Kent-Meridian parents and families.

“As an added safety measure (Tuesday morning, June 4), there will be a Kent School District safety resource officer in the area and walking route near the park,” Radford said in an email provided by a resident to the Kent Reporter. “There will also be an increased police presence on the school campus throughout the day.”
