Man arrested in Minnesota for allegedly killing woman Dec. 1 in Kent

Nationwide warrant had been issued for domestic violence second-degree murder suspect

A 38-year-old Federal Way man will be extradited to King County after Minnesota State Police arrested him on a nationwide homicide warrant for allegedly killing a 40-year-old woman Dec. 1 in a Kent home.

Paul R. Dervin will face a domestic violence second-degree murder charge in King County Superior Court, according to a Dec. 15 Kent Police statement. Minnesota State Police arrested Dervin Dec. 11 in a vehicle driven by a woman. It is unknown if the woman knew there was a warrant for Dervin’s arrest.

At about 1:19 a.m. on Dec. 1, Kent Police officers were dispatched to a suspicious circumstances call at a home near the area of South 250th Street and 23rd Place South, according to police. Officers were advised that a woman had been found unconscious.

Officers arrived within minutes and began life-saving efforts, including CPR, which they continued until medics arrived. The woman did not respond and died at the scene. No suspect was at the home.

Kent detectives located and interviewed multiple witnesses, canvassed the nearby neighborhoods for video, and combed through hours of evidence, according to police. Through investigation they developed probable cause to arrest Dervin.

Detectives conducted multiple days of investigation to locate Dervin, but he had fled from the area. Detectives obtained a nationwide homicide warrant for Dervin’s arrest.

Kent Police have not released how the woman died, her name or relationship to Dervin.
