A man was struck by passing car along Interstate 5 in Kent, and both his legs were broken in the mishap, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The unidentified man, 53, had pulled onto the shoulder of the highway at approximately 1 p.m. and got out of the car, ostensibly to remove his snow chains. That’s when a passing vehicle struck him.
The accident occurred in the southbound lanes near the State Route 516 interchange. Both lanes of traffic were temporarily closed as emergency responders stabilized him and took him to a local hospital.
State Patrol officials say they’ll be citing the man for standing in the roadway, as well as unlawfully stopping his car.
Law officers say that drivers should be removing their tire chains before getting onto highways with bare pavement.
