Malicious mischief
Kent Police cited a 24-year-old man for investigation of third-degree malicious mischief Jan. 20 after he reportedly broke a mirror and punched holes in the walls of his girlfriend’s apartment.
The incident occurred 1:38 a.m. at an apartment in the 10700 block of Southeast 256th Street.
The girlfriend told police the couple had a fight Jan. 16 at a bar after she caught him with another woman. But the girlfriend added they had worked out that issue and went out for a drink together the night of Jan. 19.
On the way home, the girlfriend asked the boyfriend about a text message he sent and he told her he had texted five people. Later at the apartment, the woman asked him again about the text messages when the two were in a bathroom.
The boyfriend reportedly became angry and threw a shot glass into the bathroom sink. As the girlfriend cleaned up the broken glass, the man punched a hole in the bathroom door as well as the kitchen and living room walls.
When the girlfriend called 911, the man left the apartment. He later sent her a text to say he would fix everything he broke.
Assault
Kent Police arrested a 24-year-old man for investigation of fourth-degree assault after he reportedly hit a former girlfriend in the face and neck with a water bottle as he drove her in his car at about 12:30 p.m. Jan. 20 near the 8300 block of South 212th Street.
The 23-year-old woman told police she agreed to meet her ex-boyfriend at a restaurant for lunch and then got into his car, according to the police report.
The two started to argue and when the woman tried to get out of the car, the man locked the doors and drove away.
While the car was westbound on South 212th Street, the woman asked the man to stop the car and let her out, but he refused. The man then reportedly grabbed her by her sweatshirt and struck her in the face and neck with a water bottle.
At a nearby traffic light, the car came to a stop and the woman ran out of the vehicle. She returned to her car, drove to the man’s place of work, and called 911.
The man told police that the woman was setting him up. He said he had prior incidents with her, but now he was with another woman who is having his baby.
Theft
Bank employees became suspicious Jan. 20 when a man tried to cash a check on an account that had been closed more than a year ago. The incident took place at 12:12 p.m. at a bank in the 200 block of West Meeker Street.
Police arrested a 44-year-old man staying at a Kent motel for investigation of theft, according to the police report.
The bank manager told officers that the man tried to cash a $2,000 check written to him from an account that had been closed more than a year ago. The man had just opened an account at the bank a week earlier using the address of a Kent motel.
Police went to the motel in the 700 block of Central Avenue North and saw a man in the parking lot who matched the description given by bank employees.
When the officer asked the man if he had stolen a check, the man denied taking any checks.
Police tracked down the man whose name appeared on the check and found out his car had been broken into Jan. 18 in Burien. He said he had a lot of items taken, but that he had closed that bank account a long time ago.
The motel manager later contacted police to tell them the man’s check to pay for the room rental had bounced. The cleaning crew also found credit cards and checks that had the name of the man whose car had been burglarized.
