Scottye Miller, 31, was sentenced Friday afternoon to an exceptional sentence of 50 years in prison for the fatal stabbing of his ex-girlfriend in her Auburn apartment in 2012.

A jury last month found Miller guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon enhancement for the murder of Tricia Patricelli, 33.

Patricelli worked in Kent as a volunteer client advocate for New Connections of South King County. The agency work withs men and women recently released from the city of Kent jail or the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center county jail. They help the former offenders with tasks such as getting their driver license reinstated, setting up a voice mail and mailing address at the office as well as giving them referrals to agencies for drug or alcohol treatment, housing, schooling and jobs.

Miller stabbed Patricelli at least 30 times in the brutal attack.

The jury’s verdict included two aggravating factors: that there was a domestic violence pattern of abuse of multiple victims; and that Miller reoffended after recently being released from incarceration for a prior domestic violence offense against Patricelli.

Although the standard range was 30 to 39 1/2 years, prosecutors recommended an exceptional sentence of 50 years, citing Miller’s history of domestic violence against multiple victims and because he had reoffended after a recent release from prison.

Friday’s sentencing was before Judge Barbara Linde at the King County Courthouse. Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorneys Andrienne McCoy and Tuyen Lam handled the case.
