A man who didn’t like his pancakes at Denny’s in Kent ended up tossing chairs that broke a clock, a hanging light and nearly hit another customer.
An employee called 911 about a disorderly customer at about 3:32 a.m. on Sept. 23 at the restaurant, 1246 Central Ave. N., according to the police report.
Officers arrested the man for investigation of third-degree malicious mischief and fourth-degree attempted assault. He fled the restaurant on foot after the incident but police found him a short time later walking through the Bowen Scarff Ford parking lot near Denny’s.
A witness told police that the man got in a dispute with a waitress and started to throw chairs, nearly hitting a man sitting at the counter. The man ducked to get out of the way. The chairs damaged a wall clock and broke a lamp hanging from the ceiling.
The waitress told officers the man and a woman sat at a table, ordered pancakes and ate about half of them before getting up to leave. She asked them if they planned to pay and someone responded the pancakes weren’t any good. She told them they didn’t have to pay but they were not welcome to come back to the restaurant.
The man followed the waitress to the kitchen and said he would pay but then changed his mind. The waitress told him to leave the kitchen. The man started to swear at her and picked up two chairs and threw them. He then left with a woman and another man. One of them knocked over a magazine rack as they left the restaurant.
The man told police he fell asleep at the table and a manager asked him to leave. He denied he threw the chairs. Police banned the man for life from Denny’s.
Man caught with drug items
Officers arrested a man for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia after they found several drug items in the man’s vehicle after pulling him over at about 2:06 p.m. on Sept. 23 in the 1200 block of West Meeker Street.
An officer saw a vehicle pull behind another car at a left turn signal and honk his horn as the first car sat at a green light, according to the police report. The driver of the second car then tailgated the other vehicle through the intersection, which caused police to pull over the driver.
As the officer talked to the driver, he noticed metal foil on the floor of the car. Drug users will use foil to smoke heroin or other drugs. Police got a search warrant for the car and found a glass pipe, 29 pieces of burned metal foil, meth, a small baggie that appeared to have heroin inside and other drug items.
The man told officers the foil had been in the car since before he went in for opioid addiction treatment. The man also had a Kent warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia.

The wife called 911 from a bathroom at the apartment to report the incident, according to the police report. When officers arrived, the husband answered the door. He said he had a fight with his wife and he pushed her and she pushed him. He denied punching her.
The wife told officers that her husband told her to go back to the bedroom because of the tank top she was wearing. The husband didn’t want his brother-in-law, who was in the living room, to see her in that top. The husband then followed his wife into the bedroom and reportedly told her she needed to do whatever he told her to do. He punched her in the head and grabbed her around the neck before throwing her to the floor.
