A mother of two young girls created a large Kent Police presence outside of the Chuck E. Cheese’s restaurant after officers spotted her reportedly driving a stolen vehicle.
About five officers surrounded the unoccupied SUV parked outside the restaurant at about 7:14 p.m. on Aug. 7, according to the police report. Officers confirmed the SUV had been stolen out of Des Moines and attempted to get in to the vehicle when the locks suddenly popped up.
The mother had used a remote key to pop the locks and started to approach the vehicle before she turned around when she saw the police near the vehicle. Officers quickly determined the woman walking near the SUV must have opened the locks and stopped her for questioning.
The mother told police she had borrowed the vehicle from a friend to bring her girls to Chuck E. Cheese’s. Officers found a BB or pellet gun inside the SUV as well as new tools, forged checks and several IDs. The mother also had forged checks and drug paraphernalia inside her purse.
She eventually admitted to officers she used heroin and had borrowed the SUV from her drug dealer. She said another drug user had paid the dealer for drugs with the SUV.
Police contacted the father of the girls to take them home from the restaurant. He told officers he had had been separated from his wife for about seven years and that the girls live with him. He had agreed to let their mother take them out to eat.
An officer initially spotted the stolen vehicle in the 10000 block of Southeast 256th Street when an automatic license plate reader in his vehicle captured an image of the plate and notified the officer about the stolen vehicle.
Police arrested the woman for investigation of vehicle trespass and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Man fights with officers
Officers responded to a report of several people smoking meth at about 9:16 p.m. on Aug. 8 outside of the Circle K store, 10255, S.E. 240th St., and ended up in a fight with a man who allegedly resisted arrest.
An officer saw the man looking at a black zipper case that appeared to contain drugs and told the man he was under arrest, according to the police report. But the man got into a struggle with a couple of officers. One officer used a Taser to fire darts at the man, who continued to fight with police.
Eventually, officers handcuffed the man. He had several cuts on his face from where it scraped across the ground during the tussle.
Police found a glass pipe in the bag as well as baggies with marijuana, heroin, mushrooms and meth. The man had warrants out of Kent for fourth-degree assault, driving while license suspended and obstructing an officer.
Officers arrested the man for investigation of resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia and the warrants. He told police he was sorry he fought with them. He said he was scared, so he fought.
Son damages father’s vehicle, mower
Police cited a man for investigation of third-degree malicious mischief after he reportedly damaged two vehicles and a lawnmower on Aug. 5 during a dispute with his parents.
The parents had brought their son’s vehicle to their home from vehicle impound after he had been arrested for driving while license suspended, according to the police report. They didn’t want him to drive the vehicle without a driver’s license.
So when the son asked his father to use the vehicle and was told he couldn’t, he reportedly responded by stabbing and destroying two tires on a Chevy pickup parked in the driveway and pulling out the ignition of a Toyota truck parked in the street. The son also poured sugar down the gas tank of a lawnmower that his father uses for his landscaping job.
Man caught with drugs
Officers arrested a man for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia after responding to a possible domestic dispute at about 11:18 p.m. on Aug. 6 in the Fred Meyer store parking lot, 10201 S.E. 240th St.
When officers arrived at the parking lot, a man flagged them down to help him get inside his locked vehicle, according to the police report.
An officer saw the man had several items in his hand, including a glass pipe. He admitted to smoking narcotics and said he had trouble quitting. He also told officers he argued earlier with his girlfriend at the parking lot but she had left in her vehicle.
