For the Reporter
No fooling. A new, larger cellphone waiting lot opens Tuesday, April 1 at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
The new lot will be located directly cross from the South 170th Street exit of the Airport Expressway, according to a Port of Seattle news release.
The new cellphone lot will have 200 parking spaces, 70 more than the old lot on Air Cargo Road. The initial opening will include 60 spaces until the remaining spaces open the following week after the completion of paving. In addition, the new lot will soon provide free WiFi to visitors (scheduled to be completed in May).
The old cellphone lot will close during the early morning hours of April 1 with the new lot ready for that day’s traffic.
A new project on the site of the old cellphone lot is the reason for the move. The Port of Seattle is investing more than $35 million to build overnight parking spaces for aircraft.
With the continued growth in domestic and international passenger traffic, the parking spaces will provide greater flexibility and efficiency. The spaces will allow up to eight aircraft parking spaces.
The Cell Phone Waiting Lot is a free service from The Port of Seattle that allows drivers to wait up to 30 minutes in the lot until arriving passengers have deplaned, collected luggage and called to be picked up outside of Baggage Claim. Drivers must stay with their vehicles.
Please be aware there is no parking or waiting allowed on the airport roadway shoulders at any time.
