Officers bust pair for stealing car, 50 pieces of mail | Police Blotter

Kent Police arrested a man and a woman for investigation of stealing a car, credit cards, checks, wallets, purses, tablet computers and more than 50 pieces of mail.

Kent Police arrested a man and a woman for investigation of stealing a car, credit cards, checks, wallets, purses, tablet computers and more than 50 pieces of mail.

The investigation began when officers responded to an OnStar security alert about a stolen Chevy Malibu parked at about 2:30 p.m. on June 3 in the Ramada Inn parking lot, 22318 84th Ave. S., according to the police report.

With officers on the scene, a woman in a white dress started to walk from the hotel toward the car and used a remote key to unlock it. But when the woman saw police near the vehicle, she walked back to the hotel. Police ran the car’s license plate and determined it had been stolen May 25 in Seattle.

Officers walked toward the hotel and saw a woman in a white dress and a man walking away with bags. Police stopped the two to question them about the vehicle. They denied taking the car. But police found out the car had been registered to their hotel room.

Police got a search warrant for the car and the hotel room. They found numerous items, including a camera. The camera had a photo of the woman sitting in the front seat of the reported stolen vehicle.

When officers searched the woman’s bags, they found a syringe and glass pipe. The woman admitted to police she used meth and heroin.

The arrested man had two warrants out of Seattle for possession of a stolen vehicle.

Police determined mail had been stolen from people in Seattle, Kent, Des Moines and other cities.

Homeless stabbing

A homeless man reportedly stabbed and injured another homeless man during a dispute at about 12:18 p.m. on June 4 in the Dollar Tree store parking lot, 23406 Pacific Highway S.

Officers arrested a man for investigation of second-degree assault after he allegedly stabbed the man in the neck, according to the police report. Paramedics transported the man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment.

The victim told officers he walked out of the store when a man ran toward him and stabbed him. He said he didn’t know the man.

Police, with help from witnesses, eventually tracked down the man suspected in the stabbing near the Interstate 5 southbound off-ramp. Officers also found a knife believed to be used in the stabbing at a homeless camp near the southeast corner of 30th Avenue South and Kent Des Moines Road.

The man accused of the stabbing told police he didn’t do anything wrong. He said he was praying near the bus stop near the Dollar Tree store when a man walked past him and yelled at him to stop praying. That reportedly turned out to be the same man he later stabbed.

Man trespasses at food bank

Officers arrested a man for investigation of third-degree malicious mischief and first-degree criminal trespass after he allegedly kicked in an office door on June 6 at the Kent Food Bank, 515 W. Harrison St.

A witness saw the man walk out of the food bank even though it was closed, according to the police report. Officers tracked down the man outside of the Kent Library. The man had two ice cream bars on him, the same type distributed at the food bank.

The same man is a suspect in other incidents at the food bank, including a burglary. Police had banned the man earlier this year from the facility, which resulted in his arrest for criminal trespass.

Woman wears top to steal it

Police cited a woman for investigation of third-degree theft after she reportedly grabbed a top from a clothing rack at about 4:19 p.m. on June 3 at Fred Meyer, 25250 Pacific Highway S., and walked out of the store without paying for it.

A loss prevention officer saw the woman put on the top as well as put a necklace and several cosmetic items into her purse, according to the police report. The woman paid for a couple of other cosmetic items before she exited the store. The items she took were worth $53.94.

The woman told police she had a “bad habit” of stealing.
