King County prosecutors have charged a 29-year-old man with communication with a minor for immoral purposes of a sexual nature after he allegedly exchanged naked photos with a 14-year-old Kent boy.
Daniel G. Jeffrey, currently in a California prison on a parole violation, reportedly exchanged photos, phone calls and text messages with the boy from June 1, 2010 through Jan. 10, 2011, as well as sent him mail, according to charging papers filed March 30.
Jeffrey was in a county jail in Georgia and later a federal detention center in Illinois on a probation violation during the period he communicated with the boy. The charging papers did not indicate how the two met initially.
The mother of the boy discovered the correspondence when a package arrived at her home that had the personal effects of Jeffrey with a return address of the Dolly County GA Justice Center.
The mother thought it was a mistake the package had come to her son, although it had his name and address. She opened the package and discovered a cell phone that had nude photos of her son.
Jeffrey also sent a letter in the package to the boy that read in part, “I pray that you have the faith to remain mines and wait this little time until I come home and be in your arms forever. They will never be able to take me from you again. I love you and remember this isn’t forever. We are.”
The letters continued to arrive and became more graphic and threatening, according to charging papers. Jeffrey wrote about his love for the boy and said they were going to get married in 2011.
The mother then contacted police and received a King County no contact order against Jeffrey in fear of the safety of her family and that Jeffrey might make contact with her son after his release from jail.
Detectives from the Washington State Patrol investigated the case as part of its Missing and Exploited Children Task Force.
The boy told detectives he had received nude photos from Jeffrey and sent the man nude photos of himself as Jeffrey had requested. Phone bills showed the man and boy had some conversations that lasted as long as 153 minutes.
Prosecutors requested bail be set at $50,000 after Jeffrey is brought to King County. He is scheduled to be arraigned April 14 at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent.
Jeffrey has numerous prior convictions from several states including robbery, counterfeiting, grand theft, larceny, carrying a concealed weapon and resisting a police officer, according to court documents.
