For the Reporter

Late-night drivers who use northbound State Route 167 to access Rainier Avenue South and northbound Interstate 405 in Renton near the I-405/SR 167 interchange should plan for detours and extra travel time during the next two weeks.

Starting tonight, May 31, construction crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation plan to close multiple lanes nightly on both northbound SR 167 and northbound I-405. They will also close numerous ramps near the I-405/SR 167 interchange. This work is necessary to allow crews to set girders over the SR 167 and the I-405 roadways as they continue building the new flyover ramp for the I-405/SR 167 Interchange Direct Connector Project.

This work requires lane and ramp closures on southbound I-405 near the SR 167 interchange. The construction activities are weather dependent and subject to change. If crews cannot complete the work this weekend, they will postpone their work to the next dry nights.

Lane closures:

• Thursday, May 31, to the morning of Friday, June 1 – Northbound SR 167 between South 180th Street and I-405 will be closed nightly from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Northbound I-405 access will remain open. Rainier Avenue South access will be closed and a signed detour will be in place.

• Monday, June 4, to the morning of Friday, June 8 – Northbound SR 167 between South 180th Street and I-405 will be closed nightly from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Northbound I-405 access will remain open. Rainier Avenue South access will be closed and a signed detour will be in place.

• Monday, June 4, to the morning of Friday, June 8 – Northbound I-405 will be reduced to a single lane between SR 167 and Talbot Road South nightly from midnight to 4 a.m.

• Monday, June 11, to the morning of Friday, June 15 – Northbound I-405 will be reduced to a single lane between SR 167 and Talbot Road South nightly from midnight to 4 a.m.

Ramp closures:

• Thursday, May 31, to the morning of Friday, June 1 – The northbound SR 167 ramp to southbound I-405 will be closed from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

• Thursday, May 31, to the morning of Friday, June 1 – The northbound I-405 off-ramp Rainier Avenue South will be closed from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

• Monday, June 4, to the morning of Friday, June 8 – The northbound SR 167 ramp to southbound I-405 will be closed from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

• Monday, June 4, to the morning of Friday, June 8 – The northbound I-405 off-ramp Rainier Avenue South will be closed from 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.
