Kent pet owners take note: Amnesty period expires soon to license your animals

Residents in unincorporated King County and 27 contracting cities, including Kent, have a little more than a week left to take advantage of an amnesty period for unlicensed pets before they face a no-tolerance fine. As part of the new Regional Animal Services model for animal control in King County, residents were given a 90-day amnesty period to license their pets without facing a fine. The amnesty period expires at the end of the day Sept. 30 Starting Oct. 1, residents who have unlicensed cats or dogs face a fine of $125 for spayed or neutered pets, and up to $250 for an unaltered pet.

A 42-year-old female inmate died Monday morning at the King County jail at the Norm Maleng Regional Justice Center in Kent. The woman was found at 9:05 a.m. Monday by jail staff during a routine security check, according to a media release from the King County Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention.

Kent Police arrested a 15-year-old Kent-Meridian High School student Sept. 17 for investigation of armed robbery in connection with a Sept. 11 incident at a restaurant parking lot across from the school where four students had their cell phones taken at gunpoint. The student turned himself in Sept. 17 to a Kent Police officer who works at Kent-Meridian as a school resource officer after word spread that detectives were looking for the boy, said Sgt. Pat Lowery in a phone interview Sept. 20.

Start cleaning out those closets of gently used coats and warm winter clothing. The Soroptimist of Kent is holding its fourth-annual Coat and Warm Clothing Drive. The service organization is working in conjunction with the Kent School District, the Kent Fire and Police departments and the City of Kent to collect these items for distribution to the homeless children in the Kent School District.

Deonte Lamont Rasul-Chiono, prosecutors allege, jumped with both feet and the full force of his 275 pounds on the head of Lonnie Johnson as the 53-year-old homeless man lay unconscious, helpless and bleeding heavily from his head on the street in the 2200 block of I Street early Wednesday morning. King County prosecutors charged a 29-year-old Renton man Sept. 10 with vehicular assault in connection with a T-bone collision Sept. 8 on Kent's East Hill that critically injured his passenger, a 27-year-old Renton man. Motorcyclist dies in wreck on 272nd Street in Kent – Update

A 34-year-old Auburn man died when his motorcycle collided with a car Sept. 14 at about 5 p.m. near Kent. The accident occurred at South 272nd and 46th Avenue South in unincorporated King County, south of Kent. A 37-year-old woman from Louisiana driving a 2002 Mercedes 330 SUV, was stopped on South 272nd headed eastbound, waiting to turn northbound onto 46th Avenue South. The collision occurred when she entered 46th.
