Kent-based firm named in USDA food recall of Trader Joe’s product

Kent-based Lucy’s Enterprises, Inc, is recalling approximately 13,776 pounds of frozen, ground chicken products that may contain “foreign materials,” according to a press release from the US Department of Agriculture.

Vargas offered top Kent Schools position

The Kent School Board Wednesday officially and unanimously appointed Dr. Edward Lee Vargas as Kent’s next superintendent. The district on Monday announced the board had narrowed its focus to Vargas, but the vote at the top of the Feb. 25 board meeting sealed the deal.

Snoqualmie Pass could see major snowfall tonight

Don’t put those tire chains and snow tires away just yet. Forecasts indicate snow could hit many areas of Washington later today (Wednesday) with the evening commute prime time for snow and ice. The mountain passes and Spokane could be especially hard hit, with up to 15 inches of snow expected overnight on Snoqualmie Pass. Drivers need to prepare for winter driving conditions all over the state, plan ahead and take precautions.

Kent schools budget meeting is Thursday

The Kent School Board has set a community work session for 7 p.m. Feb. 26 at Kentwood High School. The topic of the meeting will be to get citizen input on what the highest-priority schools programs should be. The input will be key to upcoming school-board decisions about how to make up for an expected $16 million budget shortfall for the 2009-2010 school year.
