Crews have put down the first new pavement along the Kent-Kangley Road, aka State Route 516, between 102nd Place Southeast and 132nd Avenue Southeast.
For the next several weeks, drivers can expect weeknight lane closures between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. for grinding, paving and sidewalk curb ramp work, according to the state Department of Transportation.
During the day, drivers should expect a bit of rough roadway. That’s because crews are grinding off the old pavement prior to paving the new asphalt. If the weather cooperates, all the paving will be finished in late June, and in mid-July crews will put down the permanent lane markings.
State DOT officials say it will cost about $3 million to repave the 2.3 mile stretch of highway.
