A total of 309 mattresses, 234 refrigerators and 194 toilets and sinks were brought to a recent Kent Recycling Collection Event.
A total of 1,450 vehicles brought 950 items and 281,000 pounds of material Oct. 19 to Hogan Park at Russell Road. Each spring, summer and fall the city of Kent hosts a Recycling Collection Event that allows residents to dispose of recyclable items that are not normally accepted at the curb. Instead of going to the landfill as trash, all items collected at the event are reused or recycled.
People brought 217,050 pounds of concrete, 54,411 pounds of scrap metal and 2,620 pounds of cardboard, according to City Public Work Department statistics.
Other items included 73 propane tanks, 53 water heaters and 47 air conditioners.
