Kent Police arrested a 33-year-old man Thursday for investigation of illegally driving along the Green River Trail, damaging property and a variety of other crimes.
Officers were sent out to check on a pickup truck stuck in the mud near the trail at about 10:50 a.m. at Riverview Park, just south of the LA Fitness on Hawley Road.
The driver reportedly entered the trail along South 259th Street, just east of Highway 167.
“He drove west on the trail until he reached a barricade,” said Kent Assistant Police Chief Pat Lowery in an email. “He tried to circumvent that by driving onto the recently landscaped berm whereupon he sank to the point of being stuck.”
Lowery said the man is from Nebraska, but previously lived in Covington.
“In addition to driving where he’s not supposed to be driving, he’s currently being checked for sobriety, and is facing a laundry list of charges for driving on the trails and damaging the park property,” Lowery said. “There are also some (city) environmental engineers on their way there to see how bad the damage is.”
The pickup got stuck at the site of the Green Duwamish Ecosystem Restoration Project where the new Green River side channel was constructed last year said Mike Mactutis, environmental engineering manager, in an email.
Mactutis said an engineer is investigating the site to determine the damage.
