Classes at Kentridge High School were canceled on Monday following a power outage and electrical issue.

Kentridge High School students were dismissed at 9:15 a.m. Monday following a power outage and electrical issues.

Puget Sound Energy is investigating a power surge at the school, 12430 SE 208th St., in Kent, a spokeswoman for the Kent School District said.

The issue stemmed from a problem on a PSE electrical pole on the street, Capt. Kyle Ohashi, spokesman for the Kent Fire Department Regional Fire Authority, said in an email.

Students left school using regular transportation – bus, driving or walking . Those who are unable to go home as usual were bused to Meeker Middle School, 12600 SE 192nd St., in Renton, for parent pick up.

After-school activities and athletic events at Kentridge on Monday have been canceled.

No decision has been made on whether classes will be in session on Tuesday. Parents will be notified by automated phone calls if the school is closed for a second day, district officials said.

For more information, call the school district office at 253-373-7524.
