For the Reporter
Rain City Rock Camp for Girls has expanded its successful summer empowerment camp into the Kent/Federal Way area.
The new program, South Sound Rocks, is intended to increase the diversity of its programming to reach the girls and gender non-conforming youth in the south end that would not have the opportunity to attend summer camp in Seattle.
Campers will come together this week for a weeklong crash course in playing an instrument, songwriting, social justice and empowerment workshops and more.
Each day this week, campers will be treated to performances from live local bands including Vicci Martinez, Ever So Android, Kim Archer and Pink Parts. At the end of the week campers will perform their own original song with their band at Louie G’s,5219 Pacific Highway E., Fife.
The local community is encouraged to attend the 12:30 p.m. performance Saturday.
