Join Rainier Youth Choirs for its Untraveled Worlds concert at 2 p.m. March 15 at Kent United Methodist Church, 11010 SE 248th St.
Exciting new arrangements from many cultures – as well as several well-loved widely performed choral gems – make this another eclectic program that has all singers, directors and accompanists energized.
“What’s remarkable this time is that so many participants have expressed, over and over again, what fantastic selections are on this program and that they absolutely love them all,” said Leora Schwitters, artistic director. “Usually, everyone has their one or two favorites, different for each person, but we’ve really hit the jackpot this time as far as repertoire that pleases this time.”
Familiar tunes for choral enthusiasts include: Morten Lauridsen’s “Dirait-on”; Samuel Barber’s “Sure on this Shining Night”; Koepke’s “Dance on My Heart”: Donato’s “All Ye Who Music Love”; and Thiman’s “Path to the Moon”.
The program also includes: folk songs from the USA, China, Canada, the Congo, Polynesia, Haiti, Ireland, and Cameroon; James Taylor’s “Lonesome Road”; exciting new compositions by Jim Papoulis; percussion and special accompaniments, including Seattle recording artist Wes Weddell; and the acoustics of the Kent United Methodist Church.
Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors/students (12 and older), $5 for children younger than 12, if purchased in advance (available online at www.rainieryouthchoirs.org). If not sold out, tickets will be available at the door for $15/$12/$7, respectively, starting at 1:15 p.m. All ticket prices are listed as a suggested minimum donation amount.
The Rainier Youth Choirs mission is to provide affordable instruction for singers in grades 2-14 so they may attain the highest level of artistry in choral performance and music education. RYC is a nonprofit, community-based program sponsored in part by the Kent Arts Commission and 4 Culture.
