The City of Kent is hosting a recycling event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 2 at the Kent Phoenix Academy parking lot.
Residents are invited to bring items not easily recycled at the curb. Items accepted include appliances such as washers, dryers, refrigerators, and fixtures including toilets and the kitchen sink. Scrap metal, batteries and small electronics.
Mattresses which are generally charged $10 each will be accepted at no cost.
For residents concerned about identity theft, the Shred-It of Washington truck will be on hand to shred up to three file-sized boxes of confidential documents per vehicle.
Also on site will be the Northwest Center truck to collect clothing and miscellaneous reusable household items. All items must be clean and in good condition.
Bulky yard debris four inches or greater in diameter, concrete, asphalt, rock and brick will be accepted, along with sand residents may have from deteriorating sandbags. The bags will not be accepted.
Most items will be accepted at no charge; those items that require special handling or include hazardous substances will have a small cash-only fee. For a list of items accepted, visit www.KentRecycles.com, or call 253-856-5549.
Kent Phoenix Academy is located at 11000 SE 264th Street.
