Drivers can expect periodic lane closures on South 212th Street near WinCo Foods for erosion repair work weekdays between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 17-28.
Project engineer Stephen Lincoln said heavy rains forced a portion of Garrison Creek to divert from its normal channel, severely eroding a portion of the road.
“It’s to the point that the road can no longer safely support traffic using the WinCo Foods right-turn lane,” he said. “The planned repairs will strengthen the road embankment to help prevent stream migration and erosion in the future, and allow the turn lane to be reopened.”
Approximately 30 dump-truck loads of soil will be delivered to the site during the two-week construction period.
“We know this is a busy street, and we’ll do our best to facilitate traffic flow with flaggers and signage,” Lincoln said. “We appreciate the public’s patience with us as we complete this project.”
The $92,000 repair cost is covered by the city’s drainage utility fund. The work is expected to be finished by Oct. 28.
