Drivers can expect lane closures the next few weekends along I-5 southbound near SeaTac.

Drivers should make a game plan for traffic delays on southbound Interstate 5 this weekend near SeaTac.

The state Department of Transportation expects additional congestion and lengthy delays on all major highways in King County including interstates 5, 90 and 405 as well as state routes 99, 167, 509 and 520. Plan ahead and if possible carpool, take transit or consider delaying your trip.

Contractor crews working for the state will limit southbound I-5 to two lanes in SeaTac and Des Moines beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 8. Crews will repave 2.7 miles of the interstate. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. on Monday, July 11.

During the lane reduction, the ramp from southbound I-405 to southbound I-5 will be closed. Also, the ramp from eastbound State Route 518 to southbound I-5 will be closed from 3:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, and from 3:30 to 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 10 for maintenance work.

This is the first of five weekends of lane reductions in July and August that are part of a 13-mile I-5 concrete rehabilitation project. This work is weather dependent.
