Congresswoman Kim Schrier, 8th District, was officially sworn in for her second term Sunday in Washington, D.C.
“I am honored to continue representing the people of the 8th District and to be their voice in Washington D.C.,” Schrier said in a news release. “Our country is facing an unprecedented pandemic and economic fallout from the pandemic. As one of the few doctors in Congress and as a new member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I look forward to leading our country’s public health response. And I will continue to work with the federal and state governments to get our economy reopened and children back into school as soon as it is safe to do so.”
After serving as a member of the Committee on Agriculture and Education and Labor Committee during the 116th Congress, Schrier will serve as a member of the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee in the 117th Congress. Additional subcommittee assignments will be announced in the coming weeks.
The committee on Energy and Commerce is the oldest continuous standing committee in the U.S. House of Representatives and has the broadest jurisdiction of any authorizing committee in the House. It legislates on many issues including health care, climate change, energy policy, environmental protections, medical research, and telecommunications.
The 8th District includes parts of Kent, Renton and Auburn.
