ASSAULT

Police found a man standing in a driveway with scratches on his chest, face and arm when they responded to an assault call at about 6:46 p.m. Aug. 7 at a house in the 20600 block of 98th Place South.

The 37-year-old man told officers his girlfriend had scratched him with her fingernails.

“We were arguing over finances and she ripped my shirt off and scratched me all over,” the man told officers, according to the report.

Police arrested a 28-year-old woman for investigation of fourth-degree assault, after finding her in a back bedroom closet inside the home.

The girlfriend told officers she argued with her boyfriend about their 1-year-old’s birthday party coming up. The woman had warrants for civil contempt out of Seattle and for criminal attempt-domestic violence out of Kent.

DRUGS

Two bicycle-patrol officers saw a man sitting near a waterfall at Kaibara Park at about 5:30 p.m. Aug. 6 on West Smith Street, when the man suddenly fled from the park.

Police found an opened, 40-ounce bottle of beer where the man had been sitting. The beer had been partially consumed and was still foaming and cold to the touch, according to the police report.

The officers caught up with the 29-year-old man near First Avenue and Meeker Street. The officers cited the man for possession of alcohol in a city park and arrested him for investigation of marijuana possession.

Police searched the man and reportedly found a marijuana cigarette inside the brim of his hat. The man told the officers he needed the marijuana for medical purposes to combat his migraine headaches, but he did not have his prescription with him.

When asked about the beer at the park, the man told police, “That ain’t my bottle.”

PROSTITUTION

Kent Police arrested a 47-year-old woman for investigation of prostitution at about 11:30 p.m. Aug. 6 in the 25000 block of Pacific Highway South.

A Kent detective posed as a potential client in an effort to arrest prostitutes, according to the police report.

The undercover officer, driving an unmarked vehicle, spotted the woman loitering near a bus stop on Pacific Highway. The officer asked the woman if she wanted a ride and she accepted the offer and entered the vehicle.

As the officer drove down Pacific Highway, he asked the woman if she would do a certain sex act and wanted to know how much it would cost.

The woman reportedly told him that she would perform the act for $20, and asked him to drive to her apartment parking lot near Kent-Des Moines Road.

The officer then gave an arrest sign to other officers who pulled the car over. The woman told the driver to “just tell them you were giving me a ride.”

THEFT

A 20-year-old woman told police she had no money so she stole tampons and an energy drink at about 1:19 p.m. Aug. 6 from a grocery store in the 200 block of Washington Avenue South.

Officers arrested the woman for investigation of theft, according to the police report.

A store employee watched the woman reportedly place the can of energy drink and the tampons in her purse. The woman then walked out of the store without paying for the items, valued at about $18.

When the officer asked the woman why she took the items, she responded, “Because I needed tampons.”

The woman told police she had no money and had entered the store intending to take the items. The officer noted in his report the woman had no money in her purse or in her clothing.
