King County Sheriff’s Office detectives are looking for a 51-year-old man suspected in the rape of a woman earlier this week at a Covington house.
After the alleged assault the man reportedly made the woman drive to an ATM in Renton and withdraw money. He then stole her car, according to a Sheriff’s Office media release.
Detectives believe John Alan Carter, 51, lured the woman he had known for several years to a house July 26 in Covington. Once in the house, he reportedly sexually assaulted her at knifepoint over several hours.
Shortly before 3 a.m. July 27, he then allegedly forced her to drive to a 7-11 store in Renton and withdrawn money from her bank account at an ATM. The woman refused to get back in the car with the suspect and he left in her vehicle.
Carter is currently on state Department of Corrections supervision from a 2007 arrest and subsequent conviction.
In that case, he approached an unknown woman in the Southcenter Mall parking lot in Tukwila and held a knife to her throat. He told her not to scream or she would be “hurt”. The victim screamed anyway and she was cut by Carter before he fled.
The DOC has issued an escape from community custody arrest warrant for Carter. Sheriff’s Office charges are pending. He has additional felony convictions for forgery and auto theft.
Carter is a white male, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He has red/blond hair and brown eyes. He has a brown mustache, missing upper teeth, multiple tattoos on both arms and the tattoo “Robin” on one hand. He frequently wears glasses and speaks with a slight lisp.
The stolen car that Carter is believed to be driving is a 2008 Jeep Liberty, blue, with Washington license 293XTS.
If anyone sees Carter or the vehicle they should call the King County Sheriff’s Office at 206-296-3311 or 911.
