Two diamond couriers from Hong Kong were allegedly robbed of more than $400,000 worth of diamonds in SeaTac on Tuesday.
Just before noon on Tuesday, the victims were driving a black Nissan four-door sedan in SeaTac. As they took the northbound on-ramp to Interstate 5 from South 188th Street, a black four-door passenger car cut the victim’s vehicle off and stopped abruptly, according to a media release from the King County Sheriff’s Office, which provides police services in SeaTac. A second, unidentified vehicle struck the victim’s car from behind.
Two men wearing masks and sunglasses approached the victim’s vehicle, assaulted the driver and broke two windows of the car, the Sheriff’s Office reported. One of the suspects reached into a broken window and grabbed a backpack containing the diamonds. The suspects fled in the black car.
One witness told police a third suspect stayed near the suspect vehicle and pointed a handgun at the victims while the other two suspects robbed them. Before fleeing, one of the suspects punctured tires on the victim’s car.
The suspect vehicle is described as a black, newer model four-door sedan, possibly a BMW or Mercedes. The suspects were wearing black clothing, including hooded jackets, masks and sunglasses. Both victims believe the suspects were white men since they could see the suspects’ foreheads during the robbery, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information about the case should call the King County Sheriff’s Office at 206-296-3311 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
Witnesses may have mistakenly thought they saw a traffic accident, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
