The woman and man killed in a Kent murder-suicide on Sunday night were identified on Tuesday by the King County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Karen Perez-Palencia, 24, died of multiple gunshot wounds. Erick Orteno-Perez, 24, died from a self-inflicted handgun wound to the head.

A dispute led to the shooting deaths of the two, who were in a dating relationship, Kent Police reported.

Another woman, who is related to Orteno-Perez, was injured in the shooting.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting around 7 p.m. inside a house in the 20400 block of 92nd Avenue South, according to a police media release. Officers discovered a woman shot to death, an unconscious man who had been shot and another woman with a gunshot wound to her leg.

Preliminary information is that a verbal dispute escalated and Orteno-Perez shot Perez-Palencia, killing her, police said. The man then shot the other woman, who was in her 40s, in the leg before turning the gun on himself.

Lifesaving efforts were made, but Orteno-Perez died of his injuries, police said.

Police have not yet released the name of the injured woman.

Orteno-Perez and woman in her 40s lived in the Kent house, said police spokesman Jarod Kasner in an email. Perez-Palencia was from Renton and in a dating relationship with the man, Kasner said.

Detectives continue to investigate the case. Police have not released what started the dispute. Kasner said there were no other details to release at this time.
