Silvertips down T-Birds, 4-2 | WHL preseason

The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-2 Friday afternoon in a preseason game at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.

The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-2 Friday afternoon in a preseason game at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.

The game was the T-Birds second at the Red Lion Hotels’ Preseason Tournament. The T-Birds have a 3-2-0-0 record in the preseason with two games remaining on the preseason schedule.

The T-Birds close out the preseason schedule with a home-and-home series against the Everett Silvertips. The T-Birds visit Everett on Friday, Sept. 12, for a 7:35 puck drop against the Silvertips. The T-Birds then make their only preseason appearance at ShoWare Center on Saturday, Sept. 13 for a 7:05 p.m. contest against the Silvertips.

Single-game tickets for the home preseason game are on sale.

Alexander True gave the T-Birds a 1-0 lead at 5:38 of the first period. Evan Wardley and Donovan Neuls had the assists on True’s first preseason goal.

Everett (2-2-0-0) tied the game 1-1 at 11:05 of the first when Carter Cochrane scored. Ivan Nikolishin and Addison Runey were credited with the assists.

Everett outshot Seattle 14-7 in the first period.

Neuls scored a power-play goal at 4:50 of the second period to put the T-Birds in front 2-1. Shea Theodore and Mathew Barzal had the assists.

Midway through the second period Everett replaced Austin Lotz in net with Nik Amundrud. Lotz stopped 11 of 13 shots in just over 31 minutes of action.

The Silvertips tied the game 2-2 at 17:58 of the second on a goal from Remi Laurencelle. Chris Stockl and Lucas Skrumeda had the assists.

Everett took a 3-2 lead at 18:54 when Tyler Sandhu scored. Kohl Bauml and Brayden Low had the assists.

Seattle outshot Everett 8-7 in the second but Everett had a 21-15 lead in shots going into the second intermission.

Everett’s Matt Fonteyne scored an unassisted goal at 5:27 of the third period to get the Silvertips fourth goal.

Everett outshot Seattle 27-25 in the game.

Taran Kozun played the whole game for the T-Birds and had 23 saves on 27 shots.

Amundrud made 10 saves and got the win for the Silvertips.
