Silvertips turn back Thunderbirds 3-1 | WHL

The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-1 in Western Hockey League play Saturday night at Xfinity Arena in Everett.

The Everett Silvertips defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 3-1 in Western Hockey League play Saturday night at Xfinity Arena in Everett.

The T-Birds beat the Silvertips 3-2 in a shootout Friday at the ShoWare Center.

Seattle (34-25-4-4) has four games left in the regular season. They host the Tri-City Americans at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday, the last 2-for-Tuesday game of the season. They travel to Kelowna to take on the Rockets at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

They finish out the road portion of their schedule at Spokane at 7 p,m. Friday. The last home game of the regular season is Saturday, March 21 against the Portland Winterhawks at 7:05 p.m.

The T-Birds have clinched a playoff spot but their first-round opponent has yet to be determined.

Everett (41-20-3-5) got a power play goal from Remi Laurencelle in the first period to take a 1-0 lead. Jordan Wharrie and Ben Betker, on the power play, scored in the second period for a 3-0 Everett lead after two periods.

Ryan Gropp scored with 1:12 left in the game to deny the Silvertips a shutout. Shea Theodore carried the puck down the left wing and found Gropp in the slot. Gropp put a hard wrist shot past Everett goalie Carter Hart. Seattle goalie Taran Kozun was on the bench for an extra attacker when the goal was scored.

Everett outshot Seattle 42-20 in the game.

Kozun made 39 saves on 32 shots and his record is now 31-19-4-4.

Everett goalie Carter Hart had 19 saves on 20 shots and improved his record to 17-5-2-2.
