The Kent Station parking garage and the surface parking lot on First Avenue North will be closed by Sound Transit on Thursday, June 11 due to street closures by the city of Kent for a planned march and rally Thursday afternoon and evening.
On Thursday, passengers are encouraged to find alternate transportation to Kent Station, 320 Ramsay Way, or to park at another location. Surface Lot #2, located east of the tracks at the corner of Railroad Avenue North and East James Street, will offer some capacity, according to Sound Transit.
Protest march route
The Black Lives Matter Protest March for Justice and Peace is scheduled to start on the front steps at the Maleng Regional Justice Center, 401 Fourth Ave. N., according to a Kent Chamber of Commerce posting of a message from Kent Police Chief Rafael Padilla.
From there the attendees will march on Fourth Avenue to West James Street, head east on West James to First Avenue., south on First Avenue to West Smith Street, west on West Smith Street to Fourth Avenue, and south on Fourth Avenue, stopping at City Hall. Fourth Avenue South will be closed from West Titus to West Gowe St. until the event concludes at about 7 p.m.
Street closures will start at 1:30 p.m., including:
• 4th Avenue S. from W. Willis Street to W. James Street
• W. James St. from 4th Ave to 1st Ave
• 1st Ave from W. James St. to W. Smith St.
• W. Smith St. from 1st Ave. to 4th Ave.
