Drivers who use the South 196th/200th Street Bridge will need to take alternate routes from Oct. 7 to Dec. 2 as the city of Tukwila performs bridge repairs.

The eight-week road closure will impact the popular east-west route on the north end of Kent where the city’s borders match up to Tukwila. Many drivers use the street to get to and from Interstate 5.

Drivers can take a south detour route of Orilla Road, South 212th Street and 59th Place South. The north detour route includes Southcenter Parkway, South 180th Street and the West Valley Highway.

The bridge repair consists of street improvements within the right-of-way of South 200th Street near the Green River, including the removal and replacement of the concrete approach and other associated structures at the 196th/200th Street Bridge on the west side of the river near the boundary between the city of Tukwila and the city of Kent, according to the city of Tukwila website.

Pedestrians and bike traffic will be accommodated through the work zone for the majority of the work, however this will not always be possible and there will be detour routes posted for each phase of the project.

Expect delays on the surface streets nearest the project, provide appropriate travel information to anyone traveling to or from businesses near the project during construction and follow appropriate detours to reach your destination.

For specific questions or concerns you may contact Adam Cox, city of Tukwila Bridge Project Manager at 206-431- 2446 or via email at adam.cox@tukwilawa.gov.
