Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson released the following statement on Wednesday after Gov. Jay Inslee requested a review of the Pasco police shooting on Feb. 10 that killed an unarmed man:
“Today, pursuant to RCW 43.10.232, I received a letter from Gov. Inslee requesting that my office conduct a review of the charging decision by the Franklin County prosecutor in the death of Antonio Zambrano-Montes.
“The Office of the Attorney General does not have original criminal jurisdiction in this matter. By statute, my office could only investigate this death at the request of the governor or the county prosecuting attorney. The governor’s letter now grants us that authority.
“We will begin our review immediately. That being said, it is too soon to anticipate how long this review might take.
“I am committed to conducting a full and fair review of this matter.”
