The 2010 Washington State legislative session started Monday in Olympia.

This year’s session is expected to once again be dominated by the state budget and attempts to fill a $2.6 billion budget gap created by falling state revenues due to the recession.

Last year, the Legislature cut $3.3 billion from the state’s budget. Gov. Christine Gregoire in December proposed a supplemental budget that uses only existing revenue, as required by law.

Gregoire at the time stated she did not support the “all-cuts” budget and it is not expected to pass as proposed. A second budget proposal is expected this month.

The 2010 session is scheduled to run through April.
