The 2010 Washington State legislative session started Monday in Olympia.
This year’s session is expected to once again be dominated by the state budget and attempts to fill a $2.6 billion budget gap created by falling state revenues due to the recession.
Last year, the Legislature cut $3.3 billion from the state’s budget. Gov. Christine Gregoire in December proposed a supplemental budget that uses only existing revenue, as required by law.
Gregoire at the time stated she did not support the “all-cuts” budget and it is not expected to pass as proposed. A second budget proposal is expected this month.
The 2010 session is scheduled to run through April.
The city of Kent is divided between two legislative districts. Generally, the western part of the city falls in the 33rd Legislative District and the eastern part belongs to the 47th Legislative District.
