Although drivers know they can be cited for texting and talking on a cellphone while driving, hundreds of drivers are still stopped each month in King County alone, according to a Washington State Patrol media release.
In the month of September, King County troopers stopped 370 drivers for talking on their cellphones and 43 violators for texting while driving. More than half of those drivers received a $124 ticket for the illegal cellphone use.
Drivers are encouraged not to use a cellphone while driving, but if necessary, use a hands-free device to help keep the focus on the roadway.
