Steve Strachan will be officially sworn in as the King County Sheriff Wednesday, May 16 by King County Superior Court Presiding Judge Richard McDermott.
The ceremony is at 2:30 p.m. at the King County Courthouse, Room E-942, in downtown Seattle.
Former King County Sheriff Sue Rahr appointed Strachan in March as interim Sheriff and the King County Council appointed him to the interim position April 2. Rahr resigned in March to become director of the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission in Burien.
Strachan, 47, became Chief Deputy of the King County Sheriff’s Office in January 2011 after serving nearly five years as the Kent Police chief. He previously was Chief of Police in Lakeville, Minn.
Strachan will fill Rahr’s job until an election this November determines who will be sheriff when Rahr’s term expires at the end of 2013. Strachan plans to run for the position as does John Urquhart, former King County Sheriff’s Office media spokesman.
