Students from four Kent high schools will be participating in Kentlake High School’s third-annual “ASL Music Project” May 14 and 15. The performances, conveyed in American Sign Language as well as verbally, take place 7-9 p.m. both nights at the Kentlake Performing Arts Center, 21401 S.E. Falcon Way, Kent. The event includes students from Kentlake, as well as Kentridge, Kentwood and Kent-Meridian high schools.
All of the songs were chosen by the students, who translated them into ASL. The whole of the evening will be presented in ASL for the deaf community, and verbalized for those who don’t know ASL.
Organizers are billing the evening as a “blended cultural event” bringing two populations of audience members together.
Tickets are available at the door and are $5 for adults, $3 for children and $3 for students with ASB cards.
